Numerical Study of the Behavior of Back-to-Back Mechanically Stabilized Earth Walls

Back-to-back mechanically stabilized earth (MSE) walls can sustain significant loadings and deformations due to the interaction mechanisms which occur between backfill material reinforcement elements. These are commonly used in embankments approaching bridges, ramps, railways. The performance of a reinforced wall depends on numerous factors, including those defining soil, reinforcement, soil/reinforcement behavior. focus this study is investigate behavior back-to-back considering synthetic metallic strips. A two-dimensional finite difference numerical modeling considered. role soil friction angle, distance elements, walls’ width height ratio, quality investigated parametric study. Their effects critical failure surface, shear displacements, tensile forces reinforcements presented. strongly modifies surface location.
